BYOD POLICY

I encourage my students to bring their technology and use it in my class! I support any type of technology, but feel that iPods, cell phones, and tablets have been the most successful types of technology for my students. If your student does not have a device, please do not feel obligated to purchase one! For assignments that require technology, I will check out tablets from the library or we will go to the computer lab as a class.

The Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policy, from the 2014-15 Lee County Schools Student Handbook and Code of Conduct:

1. Students may only use their device in the classroom when instructed to do so by the teacher.

2. Students may not use their device to text or update personal sites/accounts during school hours.

3. Students may not use their device in common areas (hallways, cafeteria, etc.) unless specifically instructed to do so by a teacher or school administrator.

4. Students may only use their device in the library/media center with the permission of the media specialist.

5. Students may use their device on school buses as described by the Transportation Policy.

6. Students should not ask teachers or staff to 'hold onto' or store their device.

7. Administrators should not be asked to retrieve devices left in school lockers.

These are only a few of the highlights of our BYOD policy. For more information about how to connect to the Internet at SMS or the school's liability for your student's device, click here.
